There are no hard and fast rules about what tools you must own, if you are going to embark on a mission to improve your time management skills. The following simple tools, however, are inexpensive, and can help make the process of tracking, planning and organizing your time easier and less burdensome.
Time Monitor Journal- This resource comes in both the digital and traditional varieties. It is useful in helping you to monitor and record your own use of time, in order to identify key areas for change.
While a special journal is not needed, you may find that a ready made one saves you time in the long run, by doing the majority of the work for you prior to the actual recording of your activities.
Planner- Available in digital and traditional formats, planners are wonderful for recording goals, making notes, keeping track of appointments and more. A planner is a must have to help you stay organized and on target, when working toward your goals.
Select a planner that allows you enough room to keep track of a number of appointments and daily goals, but that is small enough so that you are able to carry it with you at all times.
Organizer- These can be useful for planning a specific project, or managing a number of projects all at the same time. Digital and traditional versions of project organizers are available that can help you stay on top of the job.
Time Management - About Time Boxing
Time boxing is a system of time management which breaks down a long and complex task into smaller pieces. Each piece of the task must be accomplished by a specific deadline. In time boxing deadlines are not flexible, but everything else in the project is.
In time boxing a large task is broken down into several sections. Each section has specific guidelines for its completion. When the boxes are first “laid out”, along with their deadlines, the project may be very detailed. As each deadline approaches, if the tasks first pinpointed in the time box are not near to completion, certain aspects of those tasks may be scraped.
One example of this type of time management system might be to consider a script for a motion picture. The scenes are laid out in boxes, with 5 or 6 scenes to be completed at each deadline. As the deadline approaches one of scenes may be dropped, in order to finish the completion of that section of the project on time.
Time boxing does not work in every instance. The key element to this system of time management is the deadline. In some cases if the deadline is not met, the entire project is scraped as a result.
The system works best when a strict budget must be adhered to, thus preventing the extending of deadlines, in order to finish the work.

No matter what your reading and comprehension abilities are, you can learn to read faster with a well designed speed reading program. As well, your comprehension abilities are maintained, and sometimes they even get better.
In a speed reading course participants are taught to scan through the material quickly. They learn how to skip over the parts they don’t need and focus on just the meaningful information. Rather than focusing on each and every word in turn, the objective is to pick up the meaning of the text by reading phrases and sentences as units.
Technical information can be boring to read, especially the tech manuals that contain thousands of pages of information. However, you can get through them quite rapidly by speed reading while still gleaning the most important material. It’s very important that they remember everything they need to in order to avoid having to re-read the text.
When kids are learning to read, they are taught to read a single word and say it out loud to help retain recognition. They then do the same with each word that follows. This methodical and slow moving process of reading is retained as time goes by. However, a good speed reading course can teach the brain a faster, more efficient way of reading.
The first speed reading program was developed and introduced in Australia by Evelyn Woods in 1958. Since then, learning to read faster has become extremely popular, especially when it comes to reading informational text.
It’s possible to find a variety of techniques when looking for a speed reading program. They are all designed to help participants learn to read faster. But some critics claim that many of the courses only help to achieve faster reading while reducing the comprehension rate. The speediest readers can plow through a couple thousand words in just an hour, as demonstrated in speed reading competitions. But their comprehension rate is only around 50%.
This is considered by some to be an essential component of a speed readng course that is lacking in many programs. They measure their success based solely on speed instead of comprehension and retention. This is highly important, of course, especially when it comes to technical content.
As you’re researching the various speed reading programs available, be sure to look for ones that are able to improve your retention and comprehension, not just your speed. When you put these new skills into action, you’ll find it easier to get the information you need from any of your reading materials.

These days many people are now required to perform a variety of tasks at the same time Although there are many people who slip into the multi-tasking scheme effortlessly, there are also many who are overwhelmed with the amount of work that they have to finish within a short period of time. If you are one of those people who are stumped when it comes to time management, it would be a good idea for you to start studying means and methods of effectively managing your time. Note that time management is something that can be easily learned and mastered with the right types of tools so do not be discouraged if you can’t seem to get things done at the moment. Once you develop your time management skills, you will soon be breezing through your multiple tasks almost effortlessly.
Starting Off
The first thing that you need to learn about time management is setting priorities and goal management. Before you tackle the task for the day, you need to make a do-to list and rank these things according to your priorities. The to-do list is a very important step, as this list will be your guide when you start the tasks that you need to do, and this list will also keep track of your progress as you tick of each item that has been completed. Furthermore, your to do list will help you see what needs to be done for the day and help you set your priorities.
Setting You Priorities
Setting your priorities for the day is very important. You need to know which things must be done first and which ones can be left towards the end of the day. To set your priorities, you need to develop criteria. The time element and relevance of a certain task towards the other set of tasks should be included in your criteria for setting priorities. As an example, if you happen to be working multiple projects simultaneously, you will need to determine which tasks in each are critical and which ones are not. Furthermore, if you are performing a series of tasks, you need to determine which task should be done first before you can proceed with the others.
Learning To Schedule
Scheduling your tasks is a crucial part of time management. You need to learn to divide your day so that you can accomplish more. Every minute counts when it comes to time management, and in order to be able to accomplish more, you should give yourself hourly deadlines. For example, you assign yourself one hour to work on a specific task and when the hour is over, move on to the next task on the list.

As we age we often find that certain parts of our bodies aren’t working as well as they once did. One of the most common complaints is in the area of memory. Many people suffer memory loss, or a clouded memory. They can pinpoint major events of their lives but when it comes to the finer details they can’t quite put their finger on every point.
This isn’t an issue that just affects the elderly. Memory loss is not age specific. It can happen to anyone. Because we are so busy at times, some things might slip between the cracks when it come to remembering things. it can be something as simple as forgetting where we laid down our eyeglasses or what is my friend. If it happens occasionally we may overlook it as just having too much on our minds and therefore it becomes harder to retain all the information we need to. However if it’s an ongoing problem it is something we need to address.
Memory loss can be an embarrassing issue and many people hesitate to talk about it with family, with friends and even with their physician. They view it as a sign of aging and because they may not be ready to face being older, they ignore the problem. They assume that it happens to everyone and they just accept it.
There are solutions to the problem of memory loss. Depending on the seriousness of the problem, the remedies can range from exercises to enhance your memory, to natural supplements that help clear the mind or in some cases to traditional prescription medications.
Another approach that works for many people is to use aids in helping them remember important dates or events. Having a method of keeping track of things that involves writing them down when they are fresh in the mind guarantees that you won’t forget them, because you can refer back to them. It also serves another purpose, often when we write things down we can visualize the note later. Our mind will pull it back up and before we even refer to the notebook or day planner, we have recalled the name, date or event.
Some people have found it helpful to repeat things out loud. This works to reinforce the information and implant it into the memory. This seems to work especially well for people who have trouble remembering names when they are meeting someone for the first time.
Memory loss is a condition that can affect anyone. By taking a few small steps you can work towards building your memory back up. It’s much like the Memory Game that children play when they are small to exercise that part of their mind. The adult version may differ a bit, but the principle is very much the same. Exercising the mind is much like exercising any muscle within your body. If it’s not stimulated our memory won’t work as well as it once did.
